Getting started

New installation

On this page

An empty database, the package, /install.php — about five minutes.

1. Create the database

In cPanel open MySQL Databases: create a database, create a user with a strong password, and add the user to the database with All privileges. Write down the three names; the installer asks for them.

2. Upload the package

Upload MyMeetBook-<version>-install.zip to the folder of your domain (usually public_html) with File Manager → Upload, then Extract. The files must sit directly in the folder of the domain: public_html/index.php, not public_html/MyMeetBook/index.php.

MyMeetBook also runs in a sub-folder (example.com/community) and on a sub-domain. Nothing needs to be edited for either.

3. Open the installer

Go to https://your-site/install.php.

  1. Server check. Every line must show a tick. A cross tells you what to switch on; fix it and reload.
  2. Database, site and admin account. Enter the database names from step 1, the address of the site (with https:// when it has a certificate, without a slash at the end), the name of the site, and your own name, username, e-mail and password. This account becomes the owner of the site.
  3. Done. You are signed in already. The page shows the cron line for your server.

Licence key. The field is optional. Leave it empty and the site runs as a 14-day trial; add the key later on Admin → Licence. See the chapter The licence key.

Demo content. Tick Add a few demo members and posts to see a filled site at once. Admin → Tools → Demo data removes them again in one click.

4. Add the cron job

cPanel → Cron Jobs → Once per minute, with the line the installer showed you. It looks like this:

php /home/USER/public_html/cron.php

5. First settings

  • Admin → Logo & colours — your logo, the icon of the site and the brand colour.
  • Admin → Settings → General — name, tagline, time zone, contact address.
  • Admin → Settings → E-mail — how mail is sent. Use SMTP when your host's own mail lands in spam, save, then press Test.
  • Admin → Pages & legal — your terms and privacy policy.
  • Admin → Plugins — switch on what you want: Messenger, Stories, Pages, Groups and the others.

After the install

The installer locks itself with the file installed.lock. You may delete install.php; it does nothing any more.

Set config.php to permission 644 and never share it: it holds the database password and the secret that signs sessions.

Installing over an existing MyMeetBook

Tick Use this database anyway when the database already holds a MyMeetBook site (for example after moving to a new server). The tables and their content are kept; only missing tables and settings are added.
