Zakat Calculator
The Zakat Calculator is a complete, careful calculator for the zakat on everything a family usually owns: cash and bank balances, mobile wallets, gold and silver by karat and weight, business stock, investments, money owed to them, less what they owe. It weighs the total against the gold or silver nisab at the prices you keep up to date, and gives a printable statement.
It is a free plugin and comes with Quran CMS.
Who it is for
Every Islamic website, and especially sites in Bangladesh and South Asia: gold and silver can be entered in gram, vori (tola), ana and rati, the prices are kept per gram for 22K, 21K, 18K, traditional (sanaton) and 24K gold and for silver, and the default currency is the taka (৳). Change the currency and sign for any other country.
Switching it on
Admin → Plugins, turn Zakat Calculator on. The page is at /zakat-calculator and appears as a card on the Islamic tools page (/tools). Add it to a menu under Appearance → Header & menus if you want it one click away.
What the visitor sees
The page works entirely in the visitor's browser: the figures are worked out as they type and nothing they enter is sent to your server. That is said on the page, which matters to people entering their savings.
Prices and nisab
The prices per gram you set in the admin, with the date they were last updated. A visitor can change a price on the page if today's market rate differs.
Nisab standard offers Silver — 52.5 vori (612.36 g) and Gold — 7.5 vori (87.48 g). Silver is the starting choice, with the note that the silver nisab is more beneficial for the poor and is the Hanafi view when wealth is of mixed kinds. When someone holds only gold, the calculator uses the gold nisab and says why.
The sections
| Section | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Cash and bank | Cash at home or in hand, bank accounts, mobile wallets (bKash, Nagad …), with Add more for extra rows |
| Gold | Jewellery, coins and bars — including what is worn, in the Hanafi view — each with its karat and weight |
| Silver | Silver jewellery, utensils and coins |
| Business | Goods held for sale at today's selling price (not fittings, machines, vehicles or buildings) |
| Investments and savings | Shares held to trade, mutual funds and bonds, savings certificates (sanchayapatra), a provident fund you can withdraw — at today's value |
| Money owed to you | Loans you expect to get back |
| What you owe | Only what is due now or within the coming year is deducted |
A short Good to know box explains the lunar year, what is not zakatable (the home you live in, car, furniture, clothes, tools of your trade) and that the calculator follows the common Hanafi approach, with a link to the lesson on zakat.
The result
The panel on the right shows Zakat due (2.5%), Total assets, Less liabilities, Net zakatable wealth and the Nisab, with a bar showing how far the wealth is above or below it. Below that:

- Save keeps the figures on this device; Copy copies a summary; Clear starts again.
- Print prints a one-page A4 Zakat statement with your logo, the name, the date (Gregorian and Hijri), every asset and liability, the nisab used, the prices, the zakat due, at-Tawbah 9:103 and a reminder of who may receive zakat (at-Tawbah 9:60).

A typical year
- Before Ramadan, open the settings and enter the current gold and silver prices per gram and today's date.
- Create a zakat cause under Donations → Causes (see Donations) and paste its address into “Pay your zakat” button address.
- Write a short post about zakat and link to
/zakat-calculator— visitors work out their zakat, print their statement and pay it on your site in one visit.
Tips
- Keep the prices date honest: visitors trust a calculator that says when its prices were checked.
- The calculator never stores anyone's figures on the server. If someone asks where their figures went, they were saved on the device they used, in that browser.
- For unusual cases (mixed business partnerships, debts owed to the visitor that may never be repaid) the page itself advises asking a trusted scholar; you may want to add your own contact for questions in the post that links to it.
