The Live plugin lets your members broadcast live. There are three ways to go out:
- From the browser - camera, microphone or a shared screen, straight from Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. No server and no OBS; it works on shared hosting.
- From OBS or a phone streaming app, through a streaming server you run (or rent).
- A live on YouTube, Facebook or Twitch, shown on your site with your own chat beside it.
Viewers watch with a live chat, see how many others are watching, and subscribers are told when a channel goes live. A browser stream can be saved afterwards as an ordinary video on the channel.
Switching it on
Live Streaming is sold as a premium plugin on license.faruk.bd (addon code live-streaming). Make sure your licence includes it: buy it there, then press Check again now on Admin → License; the addon then shows in the Addons row of that page. After that, switch it on at Admin → Plugins, where the card is called Live (folder plugins/live).
Switching it on makes its tables. Switching it off keeps every stream and chat message, so they come back when it is on again.
What it adds
| Where | What |
|---|---|
| Main menu | Live, with the number live right now, e.g. Live (2). Opens /plugins/live: Live now, Coming up and Streamed before. |
| Home page | A Live now block, shown only while somebody is live. Place or move it on Admin → Settings → Home page. |
| + Create menu and the Studio menu | Go live, which opens /plugins/live/studio. |
| Member's Studio | A Live tab listing their streams, peak viewers, views and recordings. |
| Packages | A Can go live switch on each package. |
| Admin | Live under Plugins in the menu (admin/plugin.php?code=live). |
| Mobile API | Routes live, live/{uid} and live/{uid}/chat (see Mobile API). |
The admin page
Admin → Live shows Live now, Streams so far, Most watching at once and Chat messages, then the settings.
Live from the browser
- Members may go live from the browser - on by default. Needs HTTPS; browsers give no camera to a plain
http://page. - When a stream ends, its recording - Waits: the member presses "Save as a video" (default), Becomes a video on the channel by itself, or Is thrown away.
- The recording is published as - Public, Unlisted or Private.
- Seconds in one piece (1-6, default 2) - smaller is closer to real time but sends more requests.
- Largest one stream may grow to (MB) - default 2048. 720p is about 1 GB an hour; a stream that reaches the limit is ended and kept.
Streaming server (OBS)
- Where OBS sends to (RTMP) - e.g.
rtmp://live.your-site.com/live. - Where the picture is watched (HLS), with {key} for the stream key - e.g.
https://live.your-site.com/hls/{key}.m3u8. - End a stream after its picture has been gone for (seconds) - default 120.
- Who may go live - Every member, Verified channels, Members whose package includes "Can go live", or Only the site team. A member's role must also allow going live (Admin → Users → Roles); administrators and moderators always may.
Leave both server addresses empty if you have no streaming server: members can still go live from the browser or show a YouTube, Facebook or Twitch live. The page includes a ready nginx RTMP configuration and a Check the server now button. Shared cPanel hosting cannot run such a server; it needs a VPS or a streaming service.
Chat and places
- Slow mode: seconds between one member's messages (0 = off) - default 3. The channel and the site team are not slowed.
- Longest message (characters) - default 200.
- Allow YouTube / Facebook / Twitch lives, "Live" in the main menu, "Live now" row on the home page.
At the bottom, Streams lists every stream with its channel, how it goes out, state and viewers, with End and Remove.
Going live, for a member
On Go live the member first finds Check your camera and microphone: a preview, a microphone meter and a five-second test recording that never leaves the browser. Then New stream: Title, Description, How it goes out, Category, Starts (optional, to announce it), Picture and Live chat, then Create stream.
- From this browser: the broadcast room opens. The member allows the camera, can switch Mic, Camera or Screen, picks the quality (480p, 720p or 1080p) and presses Go live; End stream finishes. The browser sends small pieces to the site, and viewers watch a few seconds behind.
- From OBS: the page shows the Server and Stream key to paste into OBS (Settings → Stream → Custom). When the picture arrives, the stream goes live by itself; Make a new key replaces a leaked key.
- YouTube, Facebook or Twitch: paste the address, start the live there, then press Go live here.
When a stream goes live, subscribers who have the bell on get a notification, once.
After a browser stream, Save the recording as a video joins the pieces and publishes them like an upload: thumbnail, other resolutions and the channel lists. Joining several pieces needs FFmpeg (Video conversion); without it the pieces still play on the stream's page.
Watching and the chat
The watch page (/plugins/live/watch?s=...) has the picture with the chat beside it, a subscribe button and the viewer count. A stream that has not started yet says so and starts playing by itself when it begins. Guests can watch; signing in is needed to write. The channel owner and the site team can remove a message and keep its writer out of that channel's chats. On the Go live page the member can also Close the chat of a stream, or open it again.
The cron job
Live streams runs every minute (Scheduled jobs): it starts and ends OBS streams as the HLS address answers or goes quiet, ends browser streams whose pieces stopped arriving, and forgets viewers who left. Keep the cron line working: this job is what notices an OBS stream starting or stopping.
Honest limits
- Browser streaming needs HTTPS and a browser that can record video.
- OBS streaming needs your own streaming server; the site does not receive RTMP itself.
- A live picture plays in the live page's own player, so the AIO Player's advertisements, cards and watermark are not shown on it.
