Getting started
The admin panel
Where everything is. Open it from your avatar menu → Admin panel, or at /admincp (the old /admin address forwards there).
Overview
- Dashboard — members, posts, who is online, open reports, and what waits for your approval. A card shows who is online now and today's visitors.
- Visitor analytics — who comes to the site. Online now, today, yesterday, the last 7 / 30 / 90 days or 12 months, and all time; a chart of visitors and page views per day; the most visited pages, where visitors come from, countries and cities (with flags), browsers, operating systems, devices, browser languages and the busiest hours. Live lists the latest page views one by one (member or guest, address, country, page, referrer, device) with filters and a CSV download. Settings switches the tracking on or off, leaves admins out, controls the country lookup (Cloudflare and GeoIP headers are used as they are; otherwise the cron asks ip-api.com), shortens IP addresses for privacy, and sets how many days the page rows are kept (the daily totals stay for good). Nothing is loaded in the visitor's browser - no script, no cookie - so ad blockers do not change the numbers.
- Reports — what members reported. Close a report, remove the post or comment, or ban its author.
Members
- Members — search, filter, edit a profile, change a password, ban, verify, make someone a moderator or an admin, send one member a notification or an e-mail, sign a member out everywhere.
- Verification requests — members who asked for the blue tick. Approve or reject with a note.
- Invitations — invitation codes, for when registration is by invitation only.
Roles
| Role | Can do |
|---|---|
| Member | Use the site. |
| Moderator | Opens Moderation from the avatar menu: Reports, Posts, Comments, Media and Hashtags. Can ban a reported member, but never an admin or another moderator. Sees who wrote an anonymous post. |
| Admin | Everything except Tools and the owner's own account. |
| Owner | Everything. The account made by the installer. |
Content
- Posts and Comments — approve, hide, pin, boost, delete. Filter by status, kind or member.
- Media — every uploaded file, with its owner and the post it belongs to. Clean loose files removes uploads that were never posted.
- Hashtags — rename or merge tags, repair the counts, and keep a block list. A blocked hashtag stays plain text: it is not linked, not counted and never trends.
- Post backgrounds — the colours, gradients and pictures a member can put behind a short text post (the box fills the post from edge to edge, like Facebook). Add your own with a CSS colour or gradient or an uploaded picture, choose the text colour, order them, hide or delete one. The site starts with 21 built-in backgrounds.
Site
- What's new — the page that tells members what changed. Write entries, pin them, keep drafts. Add from the changelog brings in the notes of each new version.
- Announcements — a bar on top of the feed, for members, guests or everyone, with a start and end date. From the same page you send a notification or an e-mail to every member.
- Pages & legal — terms, privacy, about, cookies and refund texts, plus your own pages at the site address followed by their name (
domain.com/about-us; the old/p/<address>forwards there). A page cannot take a member's username or a reserved word. A draft page is visible to admins only. - E-mail templates — the wording of every e-mail the site sends, and the queue of what is waiting.
- Languages — add a language, translate it in the browser, export and import it as a file.
Design
- Themes — install, preview, activate, and set the options of a theme.
- Logo & colours — logo, icon, brand colour, light or dark by default, and your own pictures for the reactions.
Plugins
Every plugin has a switch. A plugin that is on may add its own pages to this menu.
System
- Settings — seven tabs: General, Registration & login, Posts & uploads, E-mail, Security, SEO & code, Advanced.
- Licence, Updates, Cron — each has its own chapter in this manual.
- System status — PHP version, extensions, folder permissions, disk space, limits.
- Logs — what admins did, who signed in from where (with a list of banned addresses), and the error logs.
- Tools (owner only) — clear the cache, rebuild counters, build the sitemap, download a database backup, prune old data, add or remove demo content.
Settings worth a look on day one
- Registration & login — open, by approval or by invitation; e-mail confirmation; minimum age; captcha.
- Posts & uploads — whether posts and comments need approval, how large uploads may be, the list of censored words.
- Security — how many wrong passwords before a pause, how long a session lasts.
- General → Maintenance mode — closes the site for members while you work. Admins still get in.
