MeetBook is the theme MyMeetBook ships with: clean white cards, a green accent, light and dark modes, and a layout built for phones first. It is free, it is the active theme of every new site, and it is also the base theme: every other theme builds on it.
What it looks like
On a computer the site has three columns under a top bar that stays in place:
- The top bar: your logo, the search box with suggestions as you type, Home, Friends and Videos, the Create menu (post and photo / video, plus story, page, group, event and article when those plugins are on), messages when the Messenger plugin is on, notifications, and the account menu with See your profile and Dark mode / Light mode.
- The left column: the member's menu (Home, Friends, People, Videos, Photos, Saved, Memories, and the pages of the plugins that are on, such as Stories, Pages, Groups, Events and Blog) with badges for new things, and the footer links.
- The centre: the feed, a profile, a page, a group, an article.
- The right column: friend requests to confirm, today's birthdays, people you may know, trending hashtags and contacts.
The layout follows the screen:
| Screen | What changes |
|---|---|
| Narrower than 1240 px | The left menu folds into icons; the search box opens when tapped. |
| Narrower than 1000 px | One column; the side columns step aside. |
| Phones (under 760 px) | A bottom bar for the main places, full-width cards, profile headers centred, settings tabs that scroll sideways, and windows that slide up from the bottom. |
Printing a post or an article leaves out the bars, the side columns, the buttons and the comments.
Light and dark
Each member switches between light and dark in the account menu, and the choice is remembered. New visitors get the look you set as Default look for new visitors on Admin → Logo & colours. Every plugin follows the mode, so a dark site stays dark on every page.
Making it yours without code
Most of what makes the site look like yours is not a theme option but a site setting, so it stays when you change themes. Admin → Logo & colours:
- Logo (on a light background, about 40 px tall), Logo for dark mode (empty = the normal logo), and Icon (favicon, app icon), a square of at least 192 × 192 px;
- Brand colour: buttons, links and the accents. MeetBook's green is
#27c281; pick any colour with enough contrast on white; - Default profile picture and Default cover picture for members without their own;
- Reaction pictures: your own small pictures in place of the reaction emoji;
- Default look for new visitors: light or dark.
Your own CSS goes on Admin → Settings → SEO & code.
The theme's options
Admin → Themes → Options on the MeetBook card.
| Option | Choices |
|---|---|
| Corner roundness | Sharp, Normal (the default) or Round: the corners of cards, buttons and pictures. |
| Feed width | Narrow (600 px), Normal (680 px) or Wide (760 px): the width of the centre column. |
| Top bar | White, or Brand colour: the whole bar in your brand colour with white text and icons. |
Save options applies them at once; Reset to defaults puts them back. A theme update keeps them.
With Top bar in the brand colour, use a light logo or upload a separate one; a dark logo disappears on a dark green bar.
Installing and updating
MeetBook comes with the script in themes/meetbook and is updated together with it: the update package of MyMeetBook carries the newest MeetBook too. On license.faruk.bd it is listed as the free MeetBook Theme (theme-meetbook), which every licence includes. When a newer theme-meetbook-<version>.zip is published on its own, install it on Admin → Themes → Upload a theme; it replaces the old files and keeps your options.
Because it is the base theme, MeetBook cannot be deleted. Any other theme fills its gaps from MeetBook and from the script's own templates, and if the folder of the active theme is ever removed the site falls back to MeetBook instead of breaking.
Building on MeetBook
To change more than the options allow, make a child theme: a new folder with "extends": "meetbook" in its theme.json and only the files you change: style.css, script.js, functions.php, or single templates under pages/, parts/ and layouts/. MeetBook's own functions.php is a good small example: it turns the three options into the CSS variables --radius and --center, and adds the styles of the brand-coloured top bar.
Never edit themes/meetbook itself: the next update writes over it. Themes explains child themes step by step.
