Midnight Theme

On this page

Midnight is a darker, glassy variation of the classic layout of AIO Downloader: a gradient hero with a floating glow, frosted cards, rounded platform chips and a centred footer. It is free and works with every licence.

What it is

Midnight brings no page templates of its own. It draws the classic pages of the script (the ones in app/views/front) and lays one stylesheet over them, themes/midnight/assets/midnight.css, with a small functions.php for its options. So every page works exactly as in the classic layout, the pages of plugins included; only the look changes:

  • the header lies transparent on top of the hero;
  • the hero is a gradient from your primary colour to a darker shade of it that fades into the page, with a slowly floating glow; the title is larger, with a soft shadow;
  • the link field and the Download button are round-ended and float on a shadow;
  • the platforms are rounded chips of frosted glass, and the steps, features, blog cards, results and download options are frosted cards with soft corners;
  • the results page opens on a band in your primary colour, with the results card lying over its lower edge;
  • the footer is centred, its social links too.

The glass and the shadows have their own values for the light and the dark mode, so both modes look right. Midnight also offers the full-width place under the text of a page that the Contact Form plugin uses.

Switching it on

Admin → Themes → Midnight → Activate, or choose Midnight under Theme on Settings → Appearance. To go back, activate another theme; Midnight keeps its options for the next time.

Options

Admin → Themes → Options of "Midnight" (shown while Midnight is active). They are saved in the setting theme_options_midnight.

  • Solid colour fills the hero with your primary colour instead of the gradient.
  • With Round platform tiles off, the platform chips get softly rounded corners instead of round ends.
  • The tagline stands directly under the title of the hero, on the home page and on the landing pages of the platforms. Leave the field empty for no tagline.

What it takes from Settings

Everything on Settings → Appearance keeps working: Primary colour (the hero, the buttons, the band of the results page), Download button colour, Background and Text for both modes, Font, Base font size (px), Default colour mode, the switches of the home page, Custom CSS and Custom JavaScript. Logos and the favicon come from Settings → Logo & icons.

Tips

  • The hero title is white. Choose a primary colour that is deep enough for white letters; with a light one (yellow, pale green) take Solid colour with a darker shade, or another theme.
  • The tagline is one text for every language: it is not translated. On a site in several languages, leave it empty, or write something that reads well for all your visitors.
  • Changes you make with Custom CSS for Midnight are best written with the class .theme-midnight in front, so they do nothing when you switch to another theme.
  • Midnight follows the classic layout, so what the Themes and appearance chapter says about the classic pages applies here too. For a completely different design, see Nova Theme.
