Nova Theme

Nova is a complete second design for the public site, with its own templates, its own stylesheet and its own script. It does not build on the stylesheet of the default theme: everything you see is drawn by themes/nova/assets/nova.css. Nova is the theme a new installation starts with. It is free and works with every licence.

It is made for phones first, has a light and a dark mode, and mirrors itself for Arabic.

What it looks like

Header. A floating bar with your logo, the main menu (with sub-menus), a language chooser with flags, the light/dark button and either Sign in / Create account or the account menu of a signed-in visitor. On a phone the menu opens as a sheet.

Home page, from top to bottom:

• a split hero: a small line "Free · No sign-up" with the number of your platforms, the title, the link bar with a paste button, a row of Popular platforms, and on the other side a preview card of a result with floating platform bubbles;
• the link bar recognises a pasted link and shows the icon and name of its platform before the visitor presses Download;
• a strip of four numbers;
• what comes under the hero: the band "Shorts, Reels, Stories and playlists work too" and plugins such as Recent Downloads;
• the platforms, with a search box, filters (Video, Music & audio, Clips) and a Show all button;
• the three steps, five feature cards in a bento grid, questions and answers, the latest blog posts;
• the blocks plugins add at the end (Reviews, the "Sign up free" band).

Results page. The media card (picture, title, share buttons, the Audio language chooser) stays in view on one side. On the other side the recommended file comes first, then one tab for each kind of file: Video, Audio only, Video without sound, Images. Without JavaScript the lists simply stand one under the other.

The blog, posts, pages, the countdown page, messages and the 404 page have Nova templates too. Footer: a "Have a link ready?" band, then four columns (logo, site description and social links; your footer menu; six popular platforms; the footer text), then the copyright line and the site credit. The footer is dark in both colour modes.

Switching it on

Admin → Themes → Nova → Activate, or choose Nova under Theme on Settings → Appearance. A site that was updated from an older version keeps its own theme until you change it. To go back, activate another theme; Nova's options are kept for the next time.

Options

Admin → Themes → Options of "Nova" (shown while Nova is active). They are saved in the setting theme_options_nova.

Each colour set has a lighter pair for the dark mode.

What Nova takes from Settings

• Settings → Logo & icons: both header logos, both footer logos, their heights, the favicon and the share image.
• Settings → Appearance: Default colour mode, Custom CSS, Custom JavaScript, the social links, and the switches of the home page (Show supported platforms, Show "How to download" section, Show "Why choose us" section, Show "Shorts, Reels, Stories and playlists work too", Show latest blog posts on the homepage, Show "Sign up free and get more").
• Settings → General: the site description under the footer logo and Footer information text.

Nova has its own warm off-white and deep night backgrounds, so Background and Text (light and dark) are not used. Primary colour and Download button colour are used only with Colours set to "Use the colours from Settings → Appearance", and Font only with Font set to "Use the font from Settings → Appearance".

Its words

Nova brings its own texts in all ten languages of the site (themes/nova/languages/). While Nova is active they are listed on Admin → Translations (their keys begin with nova_), where you can change them. In the hero title, the words between stars get the colour gradient: Download videos from *any site* with one link.

Read the questions and answers before you go live. The standard answers say that the site needs no account, has no limits and cannot download private videos. If your site uses daily limits, member-only sizes or private videos, rewrite nova_faq_a1 and nova_faq_a5 (and the numbers strip, nova_stat_accounts and nova_stat_unlimited), or switch the questions off.

Tips

• Pick Centred, no preview card when your hero title is long, or in languages with long words.
• A smaller number in Platforms shown before "Show all" makes the home page shorter on phones; the search box still finds every platform.
• Upload a light logo for dark mode (Logo for the header · dark mode): Nova's footer is always dark and uses it there.
